Brazilian Wedding

Before the Wedding:

Brazilians are always looking for a reason to make parties and barbecues. The first celebration before the wedding is the bridal shower (chá de panela) which take place in a party to help the new couple getting gifts for their house, usually kitchen supplies. In most bridal showers the guests help taking their own alcoholic drinks and making games with the couple.

Another common party before the wedding is the "chá de lingerie", a bridal shower exclusively for the closest woman friends of the bride. This shower also have many games and nice food, it happens weeks before the wedding and its main goal is to bring gifts for the bride for the upcoming honeymoon like lingerie.

As Brasil labour legislation only allows people to have their holidays in a whole month during the year (this legislation is changing), it is very hard for the friends of the groom to have the same days off for a stag do trip. We have a celebration called "despedida de solteiro" where the bride and the groom go out to a night club with their friends (separately, of course!).

Wedding Ceremony:

In Brazil, just like in England, it is very unlucky for the couple to see each other before the wedding ceremony. For this reason, the groom always arrive first and the bride is the last one to arrive, it is normal for the bride to be 10 - 30 minutes late but don't worry, we will keep it simple and start the wedding on time!!

In Brazil, we do not have bridemaids and best man, the closest friends of the bride and groom are called godfather and godmothers, "padrinhos" for men and "madrinhas" for women. They use to be from 2 to 16 couples that stand with the bride and groom during the ceremony and it is considered a big honour to be asked to be in this position. The main responsibility of the godfathers is to help the couple organizing their wedding day. Our godfathers and godmothers will be very special people who will make part of a very important memory for us, we have chosen people who mean a lot for us and we are sure we can count on them during our marriage life.

Before the bride enters the ceremony, there are flower girls or other children to help making this day more touching and beautiful. The bride then enters the ceremony with her father. Both bride and groom recite their vows to each other after player reading. The wedding planner bless the weeding rings and the couple seal the deal with a kiss.

Wedding Reception:

We have the formal reception which includes a 3 course dinner but most of the wedding parties are served more informally with a buffet style dinner served. Our wedding will be the second style, the food served will be canapés, snacks and bar food, we want our British guests to try the most traditional Brazilian food and drink lots of caipirinhas! For dessert we have a lot of sweets (can't miss brigadeiro), bonbons and cake. The most famous wedding favour is the "bem casado" literally translated as "well married". It is two slices of a light cake sandwiching doce de leite, a cream very sweet with caramel taste. We want our guests to have a really nice time and celebrate the love with us with a very nice party.
